Mountain lilacs (Ceanothus) cover the inland hills of San Diego at this time of year, but a number of farmers in the Julian area produce Syringea vulgaris, true lilacs, for the floral trade. Alex Bickham of Flora & Fauna Flower Co. will talk about the special requirements for growing these fragrant flowers and how to incorporate them into floral designs to deliver the Wow factor for any spring occasion.

Alex Bickham is a florist and landscaper who was also one of the San Diego Floral Association’s (SDFA) Scholars and a grant recipient at Cuyamaca College. She lives in Julian surrounded by the beauty and artistry of nature, which she has learned to work with. In her farm, she grows mostly California natives and wild mountain flowers, and Lilacs are her beloved flora.
