SDFA’s winter Annual Meeting on February 18 will be hosted by Walter Andersen Nursery in Poway and will feature presentations on planting bare-root fruit trees and on the care and feeding of roses.

Adams Bruderer, who currently serves as assistant manager and fruit tree buyer at Walter Andersen Nursery, grows eighty varieties of fruit trees in his home orchard. He teaches classes on planting fruit trees and will be sharing his knowledge and experience with SDFA and community members. Adam grew up in San Diego and has enjoyed gardening since childhood. He attended Cuyamaca College and has two associates degrees in horticulture.

James Flynn, director of Walter Andersen Nursery’s Poway location, has—over the last 15 years—worked in a variety of positions at the nursery, before stepping into his current leadership position. An avid gardener, James is a longtime rose aficionado, and will share his knowledge and experience on the planting and care of roses with attendees of the meeting. His love of roses— nurtured by his grandmother—began at an early age. He spent many days helping her tend her rose garden, something he continues to do.

While not formally trained in horticulture, James’s many years of hands-on experience —along with his passion for teaching—are strengths that have made him a knowledgeable educator. He holds a B.A. in English with an emphasis in education from CSU San Marcos, and has taught classes on organic gardening, rose care, staghorn fern culture, and many other gardening topics.
